SUZAAN HEYNS is a Johannesburg-based label. The brand was launched in 2008 and has since quickly amassed a following amongst fashion conscious men and women. The brand's signature can best be described as having an architectural sentiment that has a feminine twist, with concepts derived from avante garde ideals and classic silhouettes.
SUZAAN HEYNS is a South African label specialising in high-end ready-to-wear goods and leather accessories for men and women. After being launched in 2008, the label was incorporated into a Close Corporation in September 2010 with the addition of two business partners, Moira Jensen and Olivia Flowerday. A flagship store was opened in Melville, Johannesburg in April 2011, conceptualised around the feelings of luxury, uniqueness, the unusual, surrealism, and artistry. A second store was opened at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg in August 2012. Continuing the theme of surrealism with the emulation of a functional art installation, it contrasts modernity with vintage elements.
In 2001 ELLE Magazine awarded Suzaan Heyns a bursary to go to the London International School of Fashion. Whilst studying she actively participated in the industry by doing freelance fashion illustration, show production, and styling. After graduating from LISOF, Suzaan started her career in fashion as a stylist for magazines and commercials. She started her first label, Abraham and Louisa, in 2005 with Louw Kotze. In 2008 Heyns began showing collections under her own name at Design Indaba. In 2009 she officially launched the SUZAAN HEYNS label and won the Anglo Gold award for the 'Most creative range' at the Africa Fashion Week Awards 2009. Glamour Magazine elected Suzaan as the Style Star for its Woman of the Year for 2011. Suzaan continues to be the sole designer at SUZAAN HEYNS for all creative lines.
